Learning Online Tips: page 3

Learn by Doing

  • Be a “hands–on” learner and practise learning activities that are new to you
  • Instead of learning by listening you will learn by reading and writing
  • Be prepared to be an active learner and risk making mistakes
  • Be responsible for your own learning. Set up your own learning schedule
  • Share what you have learned with other students in the class by using the Conversation Café
  • Connect what you already know to the new material you are learning. Remember you bring lots of skills to this new learning environment

Set Goals for Your Online Course

Set specific, realistic and time limited goals for your course. This will help you focus and make steady progress during the semester. As you complete the goals you have set for yourself you will get a sense of accomplishment from the work you have mastered. Make sure that the goals you set are concrete and measurable. For example, one goal could be: “I will improve my knowledge of marketing my business by finding and 'bookmaking' examples of well designed accessible websites that demonstrate outstanding marketing techniques.”

Learn by Example

  • Observe the other learners in the class and see how you can learn from what they are doing. This is a great way to broaden your learning experience.
  • Find out in what ways other students are doing really good work that you would like to emulate
  • Discover what specific styles and qualities of their work make a big impression on you
  • Observe and learn from how other learners organize their schedules and work load
