Learning Online Tips: page 2

Online courses sometimes present new opportunities and challenges than those you would find in a traditional classroom-based course. You will use the computer more than you did before and you may find you will be involved in a different kind of learning than you have previously experienced. Here are some tips to help you become a confident online learner.

Be a Strong Self-Starter

  • Organize your study space with time management tools like a calendar, files, day timer and anything you need to adapt your space to your individual needs
  • Prepare your friends and family to respect your online learning time
  • Become aware of when you work the best. Are you a morning person or do you have more energy in the evening?
  • Be sure your computer is in good working order and has virus protection that you update weekly
  • Read through all the online materials that your instructor has made available
  • Browse through future readings and assignments
  • Write down any questions you would like to ask your instructors
  • Make an early effort to get to know the instructor and the other students in the class
