Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods: Nutraceuticals and functional foods are food components that provide demonstrated physiological benefits or reduce the risk of chronic disease, above and beyond their basic nutritional functions. A functional food is similar to a conventional food, while a nutraceutical is isolated from a food and sold in dosage form, in both cases the active components occur naturally in the food.
Nutrient Database for content of food products: The USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference, Release 15 provides data on 6,220 foods for up to 117 nutrients and food components. You can either view the data here or download the data files and documentation in several different formats for use later on your computer.
